Project Description: New operating theatres and new Foyer areas connected via a Link Bridge, as part of a phased refurbishment of the hospital. The works were complex and set within a live environment with strict controls.
Challenges and actions taken:
Live environment: Working in a live hospital has a number of complex considerations relating to hygiene, access control, DBS – checking etc. The Interclass project team ensured the CPP captured all these matters, liaising with the design team and end-users to develop robust solutions
Works complexity: The project required precise planning and execution. Adjacent theatres, wards and catering facilities remained live throughout and existing services required temporary alteration/extension to keep these operational. Access was limited to a shared corridor, necessitating out of hours working for deliveries and waste removal.
New build works: The construction of a new link-bridge required a road closure, to facilitate a crane lift. These works were undertaken on a Sunday and were completed without major disruption to hospital users.
Client View: “The team at Interclass are to be congratulated for delivering an extremely complicated project in challenging site circumstances. The finished scheme was delivered on time and to a high quality, and is a credit to all.”
